MTV MOVIE AWARDS seperti biasanya kembali diadakan tahun ini menjelang Summer. Karena diadakan oleh MTV yang notabene adalah saluran musik "anak muda", maka Penghargaan ini memang tidaklah se-"serius" OSCAR atau Golden Globes. Maka tidak mengherankan, film-film yang masuk nominasi-pun cenderung adalah film populer yang banyak difavoritkan oleh penonton di Amerika.
Jika dibeberapa tahun belakangan ini TWILIGHT SAGA terlihat mendominasi daftar nominasi dan pemenang di MTV Movie Awards, tahun ini TWILIGHT SAGA sepertinya harus benar-benar mengakui kekalahannya oleh THE HUNGER GAMES. TWILIGHT SAGA BREAKING DAWN PART 1 hanya berhasil memperoleh 2 nominasi saja. Sedangkan, THE HUNGER GAMES yang dibintangi oleh Jennifer Lawrence menjadi film dengan jumlah nominasi terbanyak dengan mendapatkan total 8 nominasi. Perolehan nominasi yang sama juga diperoleh oleh salah satu film komedi terlaris tahun laluBRIDESMAIDS.
Walaupun terlihat hanya sebagai "Penghargaan yang bersifat fun-fun saja" tetapi MTV Movie Awardsjuga tetap menghadirkan film-film "kelas Oscar" dalam jajaran Nominasinya. Sebut saja THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, THE HELP, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, WARRIOR, dan THE DESCENDANTS. Serta tidak ketinggalan film yang juga banyak mendapat review bagus seperti 50/50 danDRIVE.
